Andrea Bettega's illustrations shape the Climbing Collection
Stories Told on Cotton
This season, we collaborate with the Vicenza-based illustrator Andrea Bettega to translate into graphics the deepest DNA of Montura: a love for the mountains, outdoor culture, and that collective dimension that makes community the beating heart of everyone who lives verticality. A language of symbols that tells stories."I started thinking about which themes to express through my language," Bettega tells us. The starting point was the concept of primitive community - the core of what it means to be human. From there, he developed a system of illustrated symbols that, combined together, build a layered narrative. A bit like cave paintings: each element stands on its own, but together they construct something larger. The reference to origins is no coincidence. Climbing is one of the oldest acts there is. Before technique, before gear, there is the instinctive gesture of a person reaching for the next hold, looking up. Bettega taps into that dimension and translates it into graphic form - a sign that is contemporary yet carries something archaic within it. Fragments, contrasts, mountain.
Get ready for the adventure
Bettega's visual world is immediately recognizable. "Mine is a fragmented language, made of interlocking elements and theatrical backdrops" he explains. He doesn't chase realism: he tells stories through symbols and metaphors, with strong contrasts, bold shadows over vivid and pop hues, and that patina of time that transforms an illustration into something lived-in.Technically, his mark is built on broken, angular lines that synthesize forms without softening them. The curve is used sparingly. "I'm inspired by mountains: faceted, crumbling, jagged." The process starts from thin lines, progressively thickened, then loaded with shading; colors are flat but highly saturated, bright, without compromise. The result is a graphic that carries the same tension as a demanding route: sharp, no frills, with a clear direction.
