The Stelvio,
as told to
my children
A documentary by Alessandro De Bertolini and Lorenzo Pevarello, in collaboration with the Stelvio National Park.
In the vibrant heart of summer 2025, a powerful and intimate 52-minute documentary comes to life, telling the story of an extraordinary journey: that of Alessandro de Bertolini and Silvia Baldessarelli, together with their children Lorenzo (4 years old) and Bianca (1 year old), around the Stelvio National Park.
On bicycles, equipped with a tent and sleeping bags, the family embarks on a circular route through the most spectacular peaks and valleys of the Alpine Arc, crossing some of the most iconic mountain passes in Europe. The journey becomes the foundation for a twofold narrative: on one hand, a cultural and geographical exploration of the areas traveled – from Val di Rabbi to Val di Peio, from the Gavia Pass to the Cancano Lakes, up to the grandeur of the Stelvio Pass – and on the other, a daily chronicle of life on the road, made up of simple gestures, small challenges, and moments of wonder shared as a family.
Told through a travel-diary style of storytelling, the documentary explores the dynamics of “slow mobility” — a conscious choice to rediscover time, silence, and harmony with the environment. In this circular journey around the Ortles-Cevedale Group, the images are never just landscapes: they become windows into a fragile and precious balance between humans and nature, and a chance to reflect on the deeper meaning of protected natural reserves.
The symbolic title Lo Stelvio raccontato ai miei figli (“The Stelvio Told to My Children”) captures the heart of the project: an authentic attempt to educate — not instruct — in respect, beauty, and the fragility of the natural world. In the background, the relationship between parents and children becomes a quiet and moving thread, woven through glances, questions, and shared discoveries. It’s a story that becomes both testimony and invitation: to inhabit the mountains with slowness, attentiveness, and wonder.
In August 2025, this story will come to life through three public events, where images, words, and testimonies will intertwine to give voice to an experience that speaks to all generations.
