Alessandro De Bertolini

Born in Trento in 1979, Alessandro lives with Silvia Baldessarelli, Lorenzo and Bianca near the Mendel Pass in Ruffré (Trento). Having completed a Law degree in 2003, he became a journalist/publicist, working with “Il T Quotidiano”, Trentino Industriale (Confindustria Trento) and several Alpine culture magazines. Since 2007 he has been a researcher at Fondazione Museo Storico del Trentino, and head of its historical studies department. As part of this job, he investigates landscape as the source of history and the major transformations affecting the Alps in recent centuries. He has published and edited several books on the subject and organised numerous exhibitions, documentaries and TV features on the history of Alpine landscapes, the hydroelectricity industry, agricultural and mining landscapes, road systems and defence of the territory. For the Fondazione, he has also covered the region’s history of sport, skiing and cycling.

With his bicycle, tent and sleeping bag he has travelled in Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, Normandy, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Corsica, Slovenia, Alaska, Canada, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. He has crossed the Alps and the Pyrenees and stood on the summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. In relation to these adventures, he collaborates with the Franco Demarchi Foundation, where he runs a course on cultural geography.

Since 2017, he has worked with Montura and Montura Editing on the “BikeTheHistory” project, which aims to produce travel reportage in the form of books, articles, events and audiovisual content. This collaboration included his solo crossing of North America from California to Alaska, which led to the book and fi lm “It’s my home for three months”; a journey across the Pamir Plateau in the former Soviet republics of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan; the documentary “Brenta raccontato a mio fi glio” (selected for the 2021 Trento Film Festival) and “Lo Stelvio raccontato a miei figli”. In partnership with Montura Editing, these projects aim to raise funds for the Ger Camp in Mongolia (Need You Onlus) and the Rarahil Memorial School in Nepal (Fondazione Senza Frontiere Onlus).
